I don't know about you, but I suffered from a few days of POWS, Post Olympics Withdrawal Syndrome, for a few days this week. After just two weeks, it had become an enjoyable habit to be switching back and forth among CBC, NVC, Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC and USA.
It got kind of exciting to discover what was on where.
I finally found myself watching Synchronized Swimming again after eight years. I had managed to avoid it during the 2000 Olympics from Sydney, Australia.
This year, I happened to be in the room when my wife, who is not a big Olympics fan, was watching the team SS competition.
I hesitate to say it, but I was impressed. The sport has come a long way. It has developed a lot of maneuvers that didn't exist eight years ago in Atlanta and become a lot more artistic.
I wouldn't count myself as a fan, yet, and probably will not try too hard to watch SS from Peiking in 2008, but it's nice to seem some improvement.
Now, if they could just find a way to get rid of those stupid bathing caps and nose plugs, they might have something.
Poor Paul Hamm. His gold medal will always now be tainted with the question of whether he should really have it.
Latest word is that the Korean gymnastics delegation is taking the case to an arbitration case in Europe, seeking an order that Hamm return his gold medal so it can go to Korean Yang Young.
They don't seem to get it, these Koreans. NBC had one of its better moments Friday night before the close of the Athens games when it interviewed IOC president Jacques Rogge. Rogge explained that once a competition is over, it's over. Going back to find a judgment error later and then demanding a change in the results is counter to the basic principle of games and athletics.
Notwithstanding the fact that the judges erred in scoring Yang's performance on the parallel bars, giving him a higher score than he deserved. Do they want to correct that error?
Also, if Yang is supposed to have the gold, what does Hamm get? The Silver? And does that push the other Korean who was on the podium back to Bronze?
